It's because there was a plague of spam earlier & the 'meaningful' :wry: threads were being buried.

Brazil...blah, blah, blah

At least they had the guts to elect a good leader.

Now maybe the infamous hit squads will finally get around to ridding us of Mac.

Make Brazil Great Again!

Glad you agree that Brazil was once great. That would have been wehn we were the sisxth largest economy in the world, a global creditor to the IMF, and off the UN’s “starving populations” list, right?

I am just surprised Alexandre Frota hasn’t been named to a ministry yet.

[Looks at newest ministerial appointments. Plays “Send in the Clowns”.]

Bolsonaro left the army under something of a cloud. He achieved the dizzying heights of captain and that’s over a career spanning a decade in the regular army and another six or seven years in the reserves. Most professional officers leave at major, whether it’s from infirmity or incompetence, after they have commanded something bigger than a platoon. I suppose, military career wise, it puts him somewhere above Hitler or around the Legion 4 Mark.

As a career politician, he’s served more than a quarter of a century without any significant post or legislative acheivement. He’s changed political parties more times than you have had hot dinners. Twenty-seven years of nothing. Trump can at least claim he’s not a career politician. Trump took over a major established party, with all that goes with that, in particular a few people who know the fuck what they are doing when it comes to process, getting legislation through, etc. The adults in the room, so to speak. They haven’t served Trump well but Bolsonaro has fucking nobody. His picks for the ministries would be hilarious were it not so sad. A gibbering loon for Foreign Minister and a super minister of the economy, whose entire, Harvard school privatisation plan runs contrary to pretty much all of his leader’s past public statements and those are as good as it gets.

Of course, the trouble about being the putative leader of a micro party and until recently the PSL qualified as such is that you have no party machinery to support you and no talent pool to draw on. Brazilian politics requires forging coalitions. The military left the country with a weak polity and a mass of parties, who need to be bought off, one way ir another.

Yup, great leader.

Is that America's best shot? Piss weak. Try on a Foreign Minister designee who will rant on to anyone that will listen that global warming is the product of 'cultural marxism' (TM) . This is the bloke who will have to explain Bozo's position on Paris (it's a moving feast, since Bozo discovered that the European market for beef and soy would evaporate if he reneged on Paris).

What about a Minister for the Economy who is under active investigation for financial mismanagement and ripping off public pension funds? Dear old Paulo Guedes is going to be a super minister with his hands in the till of every aspect of the economy.

Then you have the Minister for Justice who actively prosecuted Lula, the man who was until a few weeks before the election, Bozo's chief rival and polling suggested would have won in a landslide. Conflict of interest? Nah works perfectly for me. It's a confluence of interest if anything.

Throw in a brace of generals. One, the VP, is a disgraced and thoroughly venal twat who has made some very revealing comments about his views on democracy and the army's role. He hasn't finished appointing generals yet, in fact it's likely the Brazilian Army will have run out of them by the time Bozo finishes.

There was until a few days ago a plan that now seems likely to be scuttled to absorb the environment ministry into agriculture. Hey, how about heading it up with say, one of the leading lobbyists for agribusiness? The people that demand more deforestation. You know that oxygen you've grown fond of breathing? Try taking smaller breaths.

Oh and he's only just begun. There's a whole swag of appointments to go and the ones he's picked so far are the high flyers.

If Brazil is short of venal idiots the UK has a whole front bench which they can have for free.
They should be quite happy to go south when the British people find out the amount of dosh they have stored in safe tax havens, and how extensive the planning for a crap brexit has been.
I hope they aren't over qualified? :wry:
