The Orville...

Will The Orville HURT Star Trek: Discovery's Ratings?

Watched on Roku's FoxNow and while partaking a granola bar, said "chewy, we're home..."

Fox's show advertisers are about as clueless as Sky's from the 90s. There were a few jokes, but no way was it family Guy in space, rather an homage, like Galaxy Quest, to ToS, TnG and on, excluding the crap JJverse...

I think the sort of people that like this sort of show would be happy watching both and it's having to get CBS all access or whatever it is to watch Discovery that will be the real stumbling block for Star Trek, but I'm sure the Trek people will see it differently. :wry:
It sounds like Macfarlane has been openly shopping his show around as being based on Star Trek, and with it being a "homage" and not a straight up comedy I think the Star Trek people will likely sue. :(
It's probably a shame he chose to stick so closely to the Star Trek aesthetic.

I'm really enjoying this show, great family viewing, it really is the spiritual successor to Star Trek IMHO.
I'm surprised how little I miss the world building and background Trek has developed over the years, honestly maybe that stuff has been holding Trek back.

It must cost a packet to make with all the makeup, prosthetics and cgi though. I don't know how they can afford it.

I saw season 2 on DVD, still a good show, great characters and story ideas, good family viewing. This is the sort of TV I miss, it's all the best parts of next gen era Trek modernised with a dash more humour. If only they could come up with something iconic enough to set them apart from the Trek archetypes they've cheerfully adopted.

The Orville

Big fan of the two earlier series. One episode in and this it feels a bit more scripted. Still amusing, but not sure the move to Sky has benefited the programme.

Why would the move to Sky benefit this program? What channel was it on before and was it censored?
