I'm back.

I have hit a rich vein of painting form. :D

@Horder65 Lovely Ogres. Those old ogres from Jes have yet to be beat IMO

Here are those Marauder skellies with some paint on.
Please forgive the paint job these were given a very quick, core troop, paint job.
They are a bit cartoony but nice and characterful as individuals for role playing games ... you got to love 'um.

Now there is something I would like opinions on.

I have some of the marauder ones these came with (although I think not quite enough for all the shields I need). But they are quite cartoony .... whilst I know the minis are quite cartoony I don't want to make things worse. I could use an alternative shield and change the look a bit ... OR should I be true to the minis and use use he original shields to keep the complete mini together? What do you guys think ... as collectors and purveyors of fine lead?

I say you've got to stick with what they came with...go whole hog and embrace the cartoony aspect of these wonderful figures.

Btw if you need some of the Marauder Undead/chaos Shields...let me know...I have a ton...;)

They look really nice BTW...I collect most anything that Marauder made (minus elves...gag) and have never had an interest in the undead range...until now...thanks alot.

I suppose if you want to be a pure-ist then you have to go with the origionals, personally I'd go for more of a " I was alive once and now I have been reanimated into unlife, this is the shield I had" sort of thing.

I've always found it a little odd that necromancers seem to provide their newly risen playthigs with shields encrusted with bones and symbols of death, where do they get their stuff from? and surely that would take far too much time away from their studies / overthrowing the mortal world / cheating death etc

Very cool work on those skeletons Harry, lovely to see them all together in a varied unit rather than the single pose deals offered in the WD, looks much better like this.

Regarding the shields I'd use the citadel shields with the hole in them from the same period. I don't like the embossed marauder shields that much, at least not for undead. Failing that plain round or fighter shields should work as well in my opinion.

Regarding the undead outfit paradox leadaholic mentioned the current GW fluff I believe is that both undead societies (Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings) were already obsessed with death when living so that explains their decorations. It's a cheap excuse in my opinion and my personal take on the matter is that the undead are sentient and responsible for decorating their own shields and banners. It's probably just as lame but there'll always be a way to justify doing what you think looks best :)

On the subject of Shields this is my preference list as a collector 1 being preferable to 2 obviously:

1) The Shields they came with. And for these I happen to love those old marauder undead shields.
2) Something contemporary to the originals, for example a mix of marauder fighter and chaos shields (this may actually look awesome).
3) Something older, citadel shields with holes, undead ones preferably perhaps with shield bosses from the skeleton sprues.
4) Never something newer!

Those undead sure are high desire but low (steadily rising) priority for my collection. There was a nice lot on ebay recently for a fair price (and a second lot for a bit too much). Wasn't you that got them Harry was it?

Oh and Blue VT what?s wrong with marauder elves? Just for that I won't show you my complete collection of sea elves, several usable units worth...

I prefer the ones just made of wood for my undead, or the very basics I can go to town on chipped paint and rust rather than anything with a pre-made design on.
