Agreed. The riders look OK, but the horses are not very good at all.

The heads are too small. Otherwise they look ok to me.

The heads are about right, give or take a millimeter, an improvement compared with the carousel horses supplied with the boxed set of plastic light cavalry, but the riders are still dwarfed by the mounts:

Fireforge have said on TMP that Steppe (ponies) horses would look ridiculous with riders and some agreed with their reasoning. Not many manufacturers offer Steppe horses for an accurate comparison, but when done right, like with Zvezda in 1:72 and Kingsford in 28mm, it looks good.

I think they look pretty decent enough. Perhaps not fantastic, but worth owning especially if your into building a Mongol army.

Says Osprey!!! :loopy: Well that must be correct then  Naccara drums tend to be on camels, thats what Genghis told me anyway.

Osprey shows Mongol drummers on Bactrians, so you cherry pick your titles? Miniature designers tending to be lazy, adhere to reconstructions, so Crusader's Byzantines are based on Ian Heath's error filled old Osprey. Mongolian drums are in various sizes and would be carried on an appropriate mount.

Where do you think I'm going to find a picture? All the reconstructions are based on one illustration. Am I going to have to scour libraries just to find another to back up my claim? Fireforge being lazy and/or cheap, explains why there's no camel, but doesn't mean these drums were confined to one type of beast of burden, considering the use of kettle drums by their contemporaneous neighbors.

The heads are much too small compared both to the horse's bodies and, equally importantly, the riders.
