Great North Road - Peter F Hamilton

I love reading Hamilton, always delivers a readable space opera - the perfect balance of science, plot and characterisation.

Great North Road is a sci-fi partly based around a police case in Newcastle - and though he does overdo the 'i can name all the streets in the toon' thing, it is a fine read. The only real flaw is a fairly rapid and neat ending - not the first time he has been guilty of that, but since this is a standalone rather than a trilogy I can live with that

the latter with a bit of the feel of the former.

Just reading the Greg Mandel trilogy, really enjoying it.

I couldn't get on with the Night's Dawn Trilogy. I liked the setting but the whole spirits from the dead thing featuring Al Capone I couldn't stand.

Hey Squeaky, I see you checked in at the beginning of the year, at least -- you still around?

Did you ever get to the Pandora's Star/Judas Unchained duo? Those are my favorites, so far. Limiting it to two books seemed to rein in the verbosity somewhat.

Came back with the Void trilogy, though.
