I had this posted on the old forum

I recently decided to jump back into painting and was hoping for some critique.

Let me know how to improve, constructive and destructive criticism are both fine.

The only negative I can see is that you've gone over the lines.

Cheers,

The only advice I can give (bearing in mind I'm not a great painter) is that you could do with using more layers of highlighting to getter a better gradient between the dark and light. The shield and spear shaft also look a bit flat but it's hard to tell from that pic. The spear you could probably fix quite easily by just drybrushing a lighter colour over the top.

I like the colour choice for the skintone though, it's always good to see orcs that step away from the standard green.

It's neat and the paint isn't too thick, you just need some more highlighting. I would also avoid white for the teeth, try a bone colour and a wash for starters. If you are leaving the base blank just give it a tidy with some black.

Use a more grey or yellow tinted brown so it's tonally further away from the reddish skin. If you're not confident with painting on highlights then start with lighter tones and cover it all with a light wash of brown/black (army painter soft/strong tone or whatever GW call devlan mud these days).

Many thanks, I'm getting the improve highlights and shadow comment a lot. Should probably look into that
