This Necron thingy was done with Alclad chrome over a satin black primer:

are they metal? for metal armour on metal figures I buff the unprimed figure with a wire brush to make it shiney, then put on a thin black wash, then other areas get hand primed and painted. might work on a walker. if it's resin or knobrot then no idea :)

Duff did a bunch or HYW/WotR figs burnished like that, iirc. Looks great for armor, but doesn't say 'chrome' to me.

Those were really quickly done, you can make it look much better than that if you are willing to spend the time.

You will never get a convincing chrome look with metallics (painted or polished) for the same reason we all paint highlights on miniatures; the shadows and detailing are too small and shallow to convince the eye without exaggerating them with paint. With chrome it's the reflections that are wrong, and just reinforce the true size of the miniature. You can fool the eye to a certain extent with SENMM in photos, but it looks wrong in 3D unless used sparingly (the same is often said about NMM but I don't agree with that at all). I know, I painted a whole unit using the technique.

I've never liked that paint job. Technically brilliant, but the colour choices are really bad, making the whole figure look messy and confused.

That's what clients want I suppose.

Are the halberds' tops painted NMM only or is it some sort of enchanced metalics?
The unit looks fuking brill!
