Like those Steve. :) Almost makes me want to get back to painting some Sci-Fi skirmish figures. Nope, too many dragoons to still paint.

@Sturmpioneer- Love the samurai. But, bases are so bright I had to wear shades. 8) I did the same when playing Warmachine (1st/2nd Ed.) and had my Cryx painted with that glowy green color of theirs for their attack arc. Bright edge paint on bases though can really distract from the time you spent painting the miniature. That was my experience. I know this is a participation game and thus making units easy to identify is paramount. If you're open to the suggestion though, I'd suggest black with perhaps some colored dots or subtle cherry blossoms in each group's color. YMMV of course.
It is. And it is not. When it is, and when it is not, is the question or the answer, or both or neither.

I've signed up to do four participation games at our local convention. I'm using Osprey's Ronin ruleset to do a simulation of Kurosawa's movie Ran. Specifically the battle at the Third Castle. All the figures are from my Kingsford Miniatures range. The third force will feature my new Ronin sculpts and the rest of the new samurai sculpts. The second pic has one of the new samurai pieces that will be in production shortly.

I have a thread at LAF http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=62393.0 . So, I need to complete painting 30 models, build a gaming table, counters and maybe some scenario specific objectives. It's nice to get back to 28mm after doing so much 20mm WW2 stuff for the past two years.

Since there is such a prominent colour scheme to the figures, is the lurid colour on the base edges really necessary? Looks horribly garish.

Loving those krauts Nate. :froth:

I think the bases are for people to easily identify what model is which at the convention when random people are playing with them. He can always go back over it in black once the convention is over.

Don't the back flags do that already though?

Don't underestimate your fellow wargamer! Not every figure will sport a backbanner (sashimono) and the warbands will be broken up over the table in a predeployment by the evil Game Lord (me).

The table is going to be black with grey highlights which I hope will evoke images of the movie. And if it turns out to be complete crap then I can always repaint black or whatever.

After the show the bases will be green and tufts of grass added etc...

@Sturmpioneer Kingsford Samurai are great its just a shame that they are a bit more expensive than other manufactures,

Good news on that front. The Canadian dollar has dropped 10% or so over the last few months.

Just did a quick conversion North Star's Miniatures pack Ronin03 - Bushi Buntai is $39.85 in CAD or $4.42 per figure. My figures range from $3 to $4 for most foot and $7.99 for cavalry. I'm starting to redo the pack sizes and adjusting the prices, some up some down.

I don't consider the prices unreasonable at all and I prefer the models to North Stars. They are some of the best Samurai on the market also I cant be sure but I have a feeling they would be considerably easier to paint than perry's. But my budget is minimal atm and even though Kingsford's shipping to the Uk is very reasonable considering the distance it still adds to the over all price.

Still I very much plan to put a decent size order in at some point, probably wont be for several months at least.

I'm usually posting stuff I painted three to five years ago. Here's an attempt to be in the now. Some WIPs:

Crooked Claw goblins:

Can't say enough good things about these figures. Love them! :froth: Bought the whole range a few months back.

Primed black, white undercoat for the skin, then Goblin Green flesh, green wash, then up to a custom green highlight tone paint I mixed up for greenskins that is very yellow, then light flesh tones to the mix for noses, knuckles and elbows. I tried one brownish goblin after liking the mix of tones Goblin Lee uses on his blog, but I think the intense Blanche-style yellow-green is more my style.

Grenadier Fantasy Warriors, Metal Magic and vintage plastic Citadel undead:

The Bob Naismith Grenadier ones are a funny bunch as some figures seem to be a mix of zombie and skeleton in the same figure, whereas both D&D and Warhammer have zombies and skeletons as distinct. Dig the guy flayed from waist down. Moreover the leader is a mix skeleton and mummy, and possibly some lich thrown in for good measure.

I'm painting them in garish colors using seventies pulp covers by the likes of Eerie publications. It's a fine line going this route as you don't want your undead to be too too colorful, even if you are going for the golden age Citadel look.

On the horseman I finally achieved a ground effect I'm really happy with (needs turf and grass of course).

Sounds like a lot of fucking around to get a green basecoat..http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Army-Painter- ... 1280630886

I use flesh spray on humans that are mostly exposed skin and it saves a LOT of time.

Looking good!
