President Donald Trump has not ordered flags to be flown at half-mast over federal government buildings in honor of Brian D. Sicknick, the police officer killed in the storming of the Capitol on Wednesday.
An aide to Vice President Mike Pence told The New York Times that while Pence has contacted Sicknick's family to offer his condolences, Trump has not contacted them.
Flags over the US Capitol were flown at half-mast in honor of Sicknick Saturday, while the White House did not lower its flag.
President Trump will not resign. Nor will he turn power over to Vice President Pence and ask him for a pardon, according to top White House advisers who have spoken with the highest ranking members of Mr. Trump's Cabinet, including Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, Pence and chief of staff Mark Meadows.
The president continues to ask senior advisers about his ability to pardon himself before he leaves office. It's a power that is untested and by no means settled. A Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel memo from 1976 says that the president cannot pardon himself or herself, so it would be a gamble. The president worries about his legal exposure post-presidency, but not necessarily related to the assault on the Capitol.
GOP sources close to the White House and congressional leadership say the threat of a second impeachment is real and could find some support among House Republicans, who are facing pressure from lobbying firms and corporations that help fund their campaigns. They have made it clear they will cut ties with Republicans who back Mr. Trump in any impeachment vote.
But on the other side is the Trump-inspired GOP base that threatens to launch primary challenges against House Republicans who vote for impeachment.
But as the news came in that Trump supporters were storming the Capitol Building, Melania — together with White House chief usher Timothy Harleth — was reportedly just focused on getting the job done.
When asked by aides whether she wanted to release a statement calling for peace and calm, the first lady chose to say nothing and remained silent.
Another White House source told CNN that this was because she is mentally "checked out" and "just isn't in a place mentally or emotionally anymore where she wants to get involved."
"As I have been saying for a long time, Twitter has gone further and further in banning free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with Democrats and the Radical Left in removing my account from their platform, to silence me – and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me," Trump tweeted. "Twitter may be a private company, but without the government's gift of Section 230 they would not exist for long. I predicted this would happen."
"We have been negotiating with other various sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future," he added. "We will not be SILENCED! Twitter is not about FREE SPEECH. They are about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most vicious people in the world today are allowed to speak freely... STAY TUNED!"
A Twitter spokesperson told Newsweek that "using another account to try to evade a suspension is against our rules" and any further attempts by Trump to subvert the ban will be quickly blocked, although the @POTUS account itself will not be suspended.
"We have taken steps to enforce this with regard to recent Tweets from the @POTUS account," the spokesperson said. "For government accounts, such as @POTUS and @WhiteHouse, we will not suspend those accounts permanently but will take action to limit their use."
Not long after the company took down the @POTUS tweets, the Trump campaign's @TeamTrump account was also suspended. Some of the president's more outspoken supporters, including his former adviser Michael Flynn and pro-Trump lawyer and conspiracy theorist Sidney Powell, were banned from Twitter earlier in the day.

Poor, poor Melanie...
