It's a tradition going back 35-40 years at the Paramount that the last film of the summer series is GWTW. It's a pretty fucked up story, though.
Taxi Driver and Titanic are fucked up stories, GwtW is trite, but shouldn't have been pulled, unless no one came to see it. All the movies in the Summer Classic Film Series could result in outrage, real or imagined, from one person or another over the slightest thing.

If one could get past with difficulty Scarlett O'Hara and her selfish behavior in societal interactions, there's the realization that not everything is hunky dory in the depiction of antebellum and postbellum society, but most stick with the shallow depiction of an idealized world and the resulting outrage over it.
