At least you no longer have to see TV ads with people shouting "Smoke Winston!"

I'm not nearly as defensive over my nom de guerre as I am over the name on my birth and baptismal certificates.
I can change "Winston Smith" to Nikolai Rubashov with a few clicks.
My given name is not so easy. :D
Of course I could identify as Roderick Danger instead of John C but that would involve sending a Memo to everyone who knows me.

Apathy - Corporations will move where there's the least regulation and lowest taxes or the biggest government handout.
That's pretty straight forward stuff.

Red states focus on cheap labour while the coast states tend to focus on high-tech jobs.
The mid-west... Fuck if I know. Meth addiction and government hand outs I guess?

But other than the rust-belt fervently wallowing in its obsolescence, this is capitalism working as intended.
The south can supply cheap labour, so companies that desire that will move there.

If Illinois wants to attract those companies, they'll deregulate. Or they'll find another industry that fits their area and population.

Of course, when said companies do the logical thing and move their shit to Mexico, then suddenly everyone remembers that they do love big government after all.

The grim reality of capitalism is that someone is always willing to do your job a dollar cheaper. Now what?

And outside of your idealistic "them and us" nonsense, this is generally beneficial.

A lot of rural states have fuck all going for them economically, outside of farming (i.e. government money) or resource extraction which we've seen is very fickle.
Since poor people can't just up and move to where the jobs are, having opportunities move there is of course beneficial to everybody involved.

Supply and demand. It's a beautiful thing.

Do Southern Baptists print their own history books? They must make for interesting reading.

I think it's a rationale thing. Catholics don't fit their pattern of what constitutes a Christian. Therefore, Catholics aren't christians. I've heard it from other people down south. They'll tell you right to your face.
I'm not a bad man but in certain situations I have to ask myself - what would a bad man do?

True. They can't accept the idea that there might be differences in interpreting their bible. And how they feel matters more than what scholars and philosophers say, and they always find a way to declare someone not truly a christian if it suits a particular argument. Religion and politics have gone hand in hand, and conservatives/southern christians obsess with obscure points for establishing purity tests.

I have had it explained to me in Ulster.
Can't remember the details but basically the Pope is the AntiChrist.
Seems reasonable on reflection.
No offence. :D

(In a spirit of equality offensiveness Martin Luther was a dribbling septic Cunt)
