As far as reenactments are concerned:

https://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/ ... tments.htm

IIRC,this happened after a "reenactment" at Gettysburg during the Centennial turned into an actual fight between the reenactors.

I expect there will be some fussing about the monuments on battlefields but it will likely come to nought. For better or worse, that is real history.

Take a look at the history of most of these Confederate monuments in public squares and parks. Very few originate from right after the Civil War. Virtually all are post-reconstruction and the vast majority post-1890 where those monuments reinforced the Jim Crow laws and were specifically intended to both reinforce revisionist "noble cause" bullshit and intimidate the African-American populations. A stunning number date to post WW2 and were an outright middle finger to the Civil Rights movement. The inclusion of the Confederate Battle Flag into many southern state flags followed the same pattern with for example, Georgia adding the Stars n Bars in the 1950's.

I remember one monument in New Orleans actually commemorated a local citizens group that in the 1890's courageously attacked some black citizens for a perceived offense against noble southern whiteness. Tearing down that statue wasn't enough. I would have preferred digging up those noble citizens and re interring them in an appropriate venue such as a pig sty or sewage treatment leach field.

In response to Limbo (no quotes because Spam block):

Partly fights, but mostly because the Secesh tend to be drunken idiots who fire their cannons too quickly and get burned. Or the incident in Gettysburg where a "mercy kill" mock attempt ended with a teenager losing a foot. Or drunken Texans trying to rape and pillage in the camps after the fighting. The NPS vets their living history participants before events, checking on authenticity of uniforms and arms, and testing potential participants if they can safely and proficiently handle their arms. The NPS also provides all of the powder for events, and doles it out as needed. And the park rangers sleep in the camps with the participants, to keep an eye on them.

NPS has stated they have no intention from removing them from the battlefields because they aren't "monuments" to the men, but they are included as a part of the history of the battles.

Yeah,Reb, I met an old guy who participated in some of the original ones. He told me some hair-raising stories, including an example of a rammer fired out of a cannon. The spectators thought it was part of the "act", and applauded vigorously. No one injured that time, fortunately.

Limbo, artillery can be quite fun when done unsafely. An event photo that appeared a while back was a guy cartwheeling because he was too close to the barrel when it fired. During the actual war, it was not uncommon for artillerists to lose arms from misfires while ramming in a round. There's one event that my group just sits around and watches from a safe distance, because the Texans will pull infantry (and once an audience member) onto gun crews just to have full numbers, and then try to fire a blank charge (full charges too) every minute.

McKinstry, prepare to be stunned again:

If you read the monument, it references, but does not honor the Confederate raiders who attacked the town. It honors the citizens of Davis County who fought and died to preserve the Union.

Dyson added that groups like Black Lives Matter and the antifa movement are interested in "preserving the fabric of America."

"The people that we claim, Black Lives Matter, the antifa movement, and so on, are interested in preserving the fabric of America," Dyson said. "Mr. Miller says again that there was violence there, but the problem is, to equate that violence in reaction to the bigotry with the bigotry itself is to misunderstand the fact that when you go to cancer treatment, the radiation is tough treatment, but it is meant to remove the cancer."

Antifa refers to an anti-fascist, leftist movement that sometimes uses violence in protests to further its goals. Over the weekend, antifa protesters assaulted at least two reporters. One antifa group blamed a reporter in Richmond, Va., who had to receive staples in his head at the hospital, for "perpetuating rape culture" because they did not give the journalist consent to film them.

Yep. Not giving permission to film them certainly perpetuates the rape culture, doesn't it. I'm sorry, I thought getting pictures to report the news was the reporter's job. But if ANTIFA says them doing so perpetuates the rape culture, they must have had every right to split the reporters head open, right?
