On a slightly different tack, Danny Glover has risen immeasurably in my estimation.*He's been campaigning for a union contract at the Nissan plant in Missisipi. Apparently the only Nissan plants worldwide without Union agreements are in the US. Quelle surprise. Glover, it turns out, is a longtime supporter of the UAW.

I had a sneaking regard for him before bit mostly it was sympathy for having to work with Mel Gibson.

You're right about PJ O'Rourke. Some of his best stuff wasn't political; I think any comedian who focuses on political material from one perspective gets tiresome. I heard Alexi Sayle a few weeks ago - yes the first joke was funny, then it was just repetitive.

Genuinely like to know. What has he said/done? I know his 'comedy' is of that safe, middle-class, conservative (small 'c') appeal, and for that (and his voice) I have always despised him.
If I knew he was a certified right-winger as well then I'd feel even more comfortable and justified in my intense dislike for him.

I suppose you need to define 'right wing'.

Unfunny throwback to mid seventies twee middle class suburban sit com humour that gently and covertly reinforces economic, class, racial and gender stereotypes from the 1950s-70s qualifies for me.

I don't know his politics and would be surprised if he is outside the mainstream of the Conservative Party: which puts him left wing Democrat in the States. But as a consciously 'safe' alternative to people like Stewart Lee I think he probably serves as right-ish wing.

And, I have to admit, I just find extremely punchable too.
