It's a Nazi and KKK thing... but these guys are like discount nazi's so they use backyard tiki torches, because nothing says "Aryan master race" like a tiki torch.

Many years ago, I was, for a brief period, a volunteer firefighter with the Country Fire Authority. To celebrate their 50th anniversary, some genius decided that a mass torchlit parade was the way to go. I guess it worked on a number of levels, Nuremberg aside. CFA volunteers have a reputation for arson and have been implicated in several of our worst bushfires. 'We light 'em, we fight 'em'.

Is GA's state the home of the KKK ?

Virginia is actually a purple state with a very blue set of suburbs around the cities and some very red countryside counties. Unfortunately there is a core percentage lately in most places that have a core small but vocal percentage of white supremacist, KKK douche nozzles concentrated among the dregs of society that seek to blame "others" for their failure to thrive in a 21st century diverse, technical, educated society.

Technically Tennessee is the original home of the KKK (thank you Pulaski, TN and Nathan Bedford Forrest you dick) but currently no more regressive than any other southern state and better than some (I'm looking at you Alabama).

It's a selection from the front page of Google and does count you mustachioed master baiter...

When it concerns your socialist sympathies, you're no different than those whinging about a lack of Muslims against extremists marches.

That's why the US has tried to break Cuba and now Venezuela through trade, corruption, encouragement of criminal gangs and globalist gangsters..

Rather than saying - okay you run your country your way and we'll trade as normal - they blockade, embargo, threaten and cajole, they illegally support trouble makers internally and lie about the root causes of the problems in the press. They rig prices and supply and point the finger at the politicians trying to ensure an equitable distribution of wealth.

How much do you see in the 'popular' press about Venezuela's poor, oppressed by the evil socialist dictator? Tons.
How much do you see in the 'popular' press about Saudi Arabia's poor oppressed by evil hereditary friends of the US? Fuck all.

Julia Blunck made exactly the same point but drew the parrallel with Venezuela's biggest neighbour.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... las-maduro

I'm not suggesting the US should intervene in Brazil, in fact the past couple of decades of the US ignoring Latin America have been refreshing. Brazil has greater oil reserves, far bigger economy and a much more significant strategic importance than Venezuela. It's currently in the grip of a corrupt and incompetent administration and ignoring all calls for democratic elections. About 5% of the population show any enthusiasm for the President, far less than Maduro.

Maduro is a twat and I have little doubt that a degree of endemic corruption has become entrenched in his administration butvthe facts remain that he was freely elected and that Venezuela is an established civil society with a long standing history of democratic rule. The latifundistas within and without can't stand the policies his predecessor put in place to reduce their power. See the sleek well dressed students protesting on the streets or their mum's and dad's? Think that's the face of the poor and oppresssed?

I wouldn't want to be in Venezuela for love nor money right now but the locals should be left to sort things out for themselves.

Where are the facts that he was freely elected?

The EU Parliament has contested the validity of the election...

I watch DW News, but have yet to see any "sleek well dressed students", though I'm sure there might be some in the crowd...

Many of these people were from out of state. The guy who drove into the crowd was from Ohio. Somebody posted some of his Facebook covers on Twitter:

That's an Assassin's Creed pic there, with Trump's face shopped in.

I live here,so granted,it may be wishful thinking on my part.

But the reports I've been looking at seem to indicate it. And it's often been the case with this type of thing. There were earlier protests about removing the statue, but they drew relatively tiny local numbers, too small to make the national news.

The population of extremists isn't that large. IMO.
