That constitution has worked pretty well and probably saved Japans neck.
Germany has apologised profusely and in detail for their war crimes, building museums and memorials to their victims and teaches it's children the truth. If mainstream politicians there were changing the history books and worshiping at far right wing shrines to Nazi war criminals I assume Europe would have the brains to be concerned like the east is over Japan.

A much better German analogy would be the treaty of Versailles.

It should have been brought home to Germany that, yes, they really had been well and truly defeated, and paying the damages for their military adventure was the least they should expect, they should have had a nice little occupation like japans' to remind them.
