Latest idea, floating wooden plinth. Any thoughts?

Have you got a better picture? I can see what your trying to do but it's hard to see how effective it could be from this one.

So is that a bit of acrylic glued in between two bits of wood and turned on a lathe? You might need to polish the acrylic a bit more. Use wet&dry paper followed by brasso.

Well the idea was to try and create the illusion of the top portion of the plinth 'floating' over the bottom. Clearly that hasn't worked as I'd hoped it would.

I've seen them where a gap is turned between the base and top section like this:

But I though the clear plastic bit worked better.

Perhaps if the acrylic had a smaller diameter and the two wooden pieces had slightly bevelled edges it might work better?

Combining both approaches may work best. So create a gap much like in the second photo but have acrylic in the middle instead of wood. Also I agree with Doremi that more bevelled / rounded edges may help improve the illusion.

Yeah I think that works much better. What do you think?

Looking at that last one, I could see a cool plinth being made like that with a streaming water effect down the sides.
