Japan told to stop Antarctic whaling!

Postby Australian Dawn » Mon Mar 31, 2014 10:16 pm

Finally The International Court of justice has told Japan where to stick their "scientific" Whaling.

Well we'll have to see, won't we. I can't see it being worth it to them to defy the international court of justice over this though.

Probably, unless they decided to openly flout the commission, like Norway does. I'm not sure that's a given, as it would be seen as bringing shame on the country to be party to a commission and then ignore this explicit ruling.

However, the Japanese are going to continue the hunt research in the North Pacific. This just applies to the Antarctic hunt research.

Why is it legal to hunt whales, FFS, when the killing of Furries is strictly prohibited? Where's the fairness in that?

Japanese honour seems remarkably flexible.

They will, but that just means the US and Canadian navies take over the policing until that gets shut down too. South atlantic is more problematic but also lacking friendly ports.

Don't worry, anything in the South Atlantic is automatically claimed by the Argentinians, regardless of origins.

Norway does not agree with the convention in whaling so they are not flouting or breaking any conventions. Whereas Japan did so they will be subject to the laws governing the agreement. It doesnt stop Japanese whalers whaling it stops the Japanese government from giving out licenses for whaling a key difference. So if the profits outweigh the fines then people will still hunt whales.
