I fucking hate ‘community’ minded people. You know, those tiresome fuckers who want to have street parties where everyone bakes something, or they stop you in the street to pry into your private life. Or post hand-drawn (by their sodding kids, as if it’s suddenly going to mean to me) invitations to parties.

I live in a remote village (and on the edge of that) because I want to be left alone. And it gives me a great deal of pleasure to think that my withered and emaciated corpse, that has lain unknown for the last five years, will have to be scooped up and dumped into a plastic bag by some poor sod who is going to be grossed out by the whole experience. In fact, if I can get myself in a position where it’s so inconvenient for them (such as gripping my car steering wheel) they have to cut my body up as they do it, making it even more disgusting, that’ll be even better. I’ll be dead – I don’t give a fuck. It’s another way for me to score another point against a moribund and trivial society.

We need to contact your neighbors so they can step things up a bit, like arranging for carolers outside your window during the holidays, sending you singing telegrams and clowns, and coordinate the next street party to celebrate your birthday.

I think it happens more often than we hear. You know, there are some people whose entire social life is online. But really, how strong are those relationships, in most cases? If you disconnect from a message board, people might just think you've moved on and never give it another thought.

I also think about homeless people. I see them every day when I drive into town. But they all start looking the same, and who really would know or even care if something happens to them? Yet, at one time, they were someone's kid, parent, sibling or friend. In fact, someone might even be looking for them. And when they die, they just go namelessly into some forgotten hole in the ground, and no one ever knows. The world is a cold-hearted bitch.
