This happened in the states but could really happen in any highly developed nation. Pia Farrenkopf, who didn't have many personal contacts at the time of her death, died in her Jeep when it was parked in her garage in 2009; amazingly, her body was not discovered until a few days ago. Or at least, it is probably her body.

It's definitely a tale of the modern age, and not just for the electronic element. So many people live disjointed from their communities that they can literally disappear and no one would be the wiser.
