RIP Tony Benn

Used to love listening to his take on things in life and politics.

88 isn't a bad innings mind you. Certainly a character and personality that highlights just what modern politics is missing.

RIP.

fucking hero.

He was one of only a few public figures I've ever really completely admired, with no reservations.

He mad a great contribution to British public life.

Thanks Tony.

I heard him speak at the Cambridge Folk festival, 10 or so years ago, he and Roy Bailey were doing a piece about the history of dissent in Britain since the Peasants Revolt. Tony would talk for ten mins, then Roy would play a tune or related song, them back to Tony... Spellbinding is was...

A great man, who will be missed...

Him and Bob Crow in the same week? Well, they are both Nationalising the Angels now.

Let me be the first to say, as an old fashioned Labour Voter, that i did not like Mr Benn at all, but there you are.

Just before he renounced his peerage, he got his doctor to take out a small drop of blood just to 'preserve the last bit of blue blood I have'.
Magnificent man and campaigner.
Damned annoying Minister I gather.

I read a lot of Political Diaries, and the feeling creeps over iresistably that he was a bit of an arse. Of course, having 'met' him at various meetings and stuff he was always a lovely chap and a good speaker and things, but as part of a Government? Awful

One of the very few Labour crowd I could stand. Shame, 88 is pretty good going though.

One of the few politicians I've ever met that genuinely seemed like a pleasant bloke, and was just happy to chat.
