RIP Bob Crow

Postby An Absent Humphrey » Tue Mar 11, 2014 11:37 am

I know we often do RIP threads, and I know most of them have some kind of connection to the hobby, but I've just seen that Bob Crow has died.

I'm pretty sure some of you are going to have pretty fruity opinions of Bob Crow (hold, Red doesn't post anymore, does he) but, although I may not always have agreed with Bob Crow, there was something about him I admired and I think he's a genuine loss to the country. A sad shame.

Yes. RIP.
Great on Blair, mistaken on Palestine and confused on Europe - but overall a good man.

It's sad when anyone passes anyway, and I genuinely feel for his family, particularly his daughter - 52 is no age to lose someone. RIP.

That said, I can't help but remember the triumphant celebrations of some Frothers (and in the country in general) when Margaret Thatcher passed away.

I guess there is still a "class" divide.

A great shame, overall he was one of the good guys. He never looked like a fit man, but absurdly young all the same.

The news brought back memories of Mike Perkins, another great trade union leader (for the civil servants), who died at 47. It was more than 20 years ago (and he got a lot of press abuse at the time) but suddenly I remember him like yesterday. I shall have a pint for each of them tonight.

Anyone even suggesting that there isn't a class divide in the UK is an idiot.

A complete pain in the arse for many travellers and often a huge obstacle for needed change in numerous industries, but his union members couldn't have wished for someone better to represent them.

"Class" as in have you got any class (ie style/taste).... rather than social class.

My previous comment about "class" divide was a play on words, but clearly you struggled with it.
