Bleak but true

Postby Levied Troop » Sun Mar 09, 2014 2:55 pm

You know those delerict vans/lorries/containers you see in farmers fields as you drive the motorways of Great Britain? The ones with the adverts on the side saying Jesus Saves or Best Car Insurance or quadbiketrekking?

Saw one this morning between Jct 19 and 18 of the M6 going south. In big black letters on a white background it announces:

GOD'S
DEAD

Something that never existed can't die.
Anyway, good on that farmer for a sterling effort.

Finally putting farming subsidies to good use. Now he can go back to shooting people's dogs like any sensible farmer.

What a powerful tool in the hand of unbelievers! A sign saying god is dead? So Clever, so powerful. imagine how many Christians Muslims and Jews are going to be happily driving along, serene in their fantasy-world,only for the truth to come crashing in on them. Given how many people use the M6, it can only be a few years there will be no-one left who believe in god at all. Sarcasm off.

It reminds me of Richard Dawkins. His book aggravated me so much I almost felt like going off and getting religion just to spite him.

Not just me then?

Dawkins is almost a cure for atheism. Christ  he don't half go on.

We could be reading it wrong. It could be a possessive apostrophe. Think of that, eh? Deep.

Hmmm. I'm inclined to believe you Andrew - perhaps it is even a reference to Duke Nukem?

Anway, seeing as a deity is often not seen as human and cannot/never dies it seems rather a failure otherwise. A bit like Terry Pratchett's discworld - the only way for a deity to die is to kill the last believer so that they are consigned to the history books.

Not sure that is such a great idea either.

He might be a pagan, lots of dead Gods in all sorts of Pantheons.

Dawkins is fine in small amounts but he does seem to activate the "smack him in the teeth" gene in me if I have to listen or look at him too much. But then, even Christopher Hitchens got irritating if listened to for too long.
