Has it fuck. Maybe in a pally, jokey way among mates, but that is all. It is still very much in use as a derogatory term for women however.

I dunno, I've heard women call men it . . . . .

I wasn't attempting to justify it, just that I think it's not as straightforward as it once was. Plus complaining as they have, about a pub/bar in Nottingham will only raise the profile of the word. In this instance to the beeb. I actually saw the article earlier as it was trending on their top most read articles . . . . Is it raising awareness or compounding the problem?

I also suspect that this was meant to be a pally, jokey type of approach. I expect that if it had gone ahead they probably would have women in attendance who wouldn't class themselves as slags or hags but would have seen the humour in it.

When I read bollocks like this it makes me glad I left the UK a long time ago. It was a pub promotion FFS. If they thought it would drive women away due to them being insulted, they wouldn't have run it in the first place. Valentines Night aint much with no women in the gaff. Tarts and vicars will be the next on the block I expect. We used to love a good round of trap a trog down Rock City with the boys, he who pulled the biggest minger got free beer all night from the rest. Maybe the trogs all got wise to it and got jobs in the city council.

How's life in afghanistan treating you then? I heard some women are allowed to read and own their own shoes nowadays - maybe time you found somewhere a bit less politically correct? like Russia?

That poster was made by a woman.
I suppose she's a fifth-columnist, then?

And let me add to my anti-British rant from the other thread that you have lost your sense of humour, too.

It's not humour we have lost, but perspective.

So you are comparing a pub using the word slag to the Taliban? That would either make you a. seriously misguided, b. a twat, c. Both.
I actually live in central Europe, where my wife holds a masters degree, is a head of department and drives a BMW to work every day. Oh yes, she also has shoes, fucking thousands of the bastards. I was just thinking how oppressed she was this morning. As for me, I spent the last 20 years traveling every corner of the world for 9 months a year, living, eating and working with an average of 1200 staff from around 70 different nationalities. Every colour, religion, sexual preference fully represented, and everyone got on just fine. And guess what, every month we had a themed party for all the staff, chosen by each divisions reps. Tarts and vicars, angels and demons, Hawaiian beach nights (bikinis and shorts) etc were always top of the list. Everyone showed up and had a ball. So I'll take my cultural experience over yours any day of the week. Plus, you post on a site that has regular tit fest milestones, where's your moral outrage there?
The point is, it's not for the state to regulate this. It is not exclusive. It would have been full of women. They said, 'what kind of women would want to go there?', well, that would be the ones who wanted to, it's not for some cunt in a grey suit from the council to decide. I wonder how many times those licensing people went to other pubs who turfed a load of drunken teenagers puking and brawling on to the streets every Friday and Saturday night and reminded them of their responsibilities But wait, one feminist group sticks their hand up and the shit hits the fan. I wonder if they'll protest the next chippendales show as well. Probably not.

No, he was making a ludicrously extreme statement to get a laugh, while also pointing out the mild misogyny of your post, which you have somehow taken seriously. :loopy:

I agree that it shouldn't be the states job to legislate stuff like this, but it is the responsibility/right of society as a whole to condemn it. Disagree by all means, we can have a full on debate if you like, but don't condemn people for complaining. It might seem a minor issue compared to the injustices of the past (which of course, it is) but that still doesn't make it ok. 40 years ago people were making similar statements about uppity feminists as those made on this thread. Scott's original post may as well have read "I'm not sexist, but..."

But please Jez, do continue to give us the insights your hugely varied life experience has given you that the rest of us poor drones with our simple, parochial lives are incapable of achieving.
