Yep, he was a terrorist. In an essentially good cause when there was little alternative. As soon as he was given the opportunity to do it another way he did and stopped being a terrorist. When he had power he stuck to the principles of inclusivity he outlined before he had it - a major achievement for any politician. A shame he wasn't allowed to start his programme 20 years earlier - I hope all South Africans learned enough in the time he was around.
A good man.

Yup, as others have said.
Hastati and Bronshtein have said it for me and I can only agree with their views.
I'm not sure how resisting a wicked regime is 'terrorism', but that may just be semantics and I don't care to get into the discussion or see that it makes any difference anyway.
He showed himself by his actions.
A truly global figure, and a fine example to everyone regardless of colour or creed. We should be proud to have lived during his times and that, to us, he was a 'real' person and not just a historical figure.

yep, he made a real difference, I always liked his story about insisting that all of his comrades give up smoking when they were imprisoned - so that they were free of the leverage soking may have offered their captors...
a thoughtful decent man.

Not to derail the thing but thank you for lecturing us and solving the entire problem yer 'onour.

On the OT: I'm ambivalent. Obviously I have strong views on the topic of terrorism, but with the circumstances then and since... it's a pickle.

If that's your definition of a lecture I suggest you skip University.

Indeed it is, indeed it is - sigh, if only you had been at S.A.L.T with your words of wisdom, the Berlin Wall would have fallen far earlier.

Oh, and if you 'yer'onour' me again I will push a turnip up your jap's eye.

People are criticising Mandela, but one person's freedom fighter is another's terrorist...
