Witches weren't accepted in the ancient world too, what with the evil eye and other curses. Also atheism could get one killed in the Greco-Roman world, despite the claims of apologists that the Ancient Greeks were rational. One can't separate man from religion and religion from man.

Religions don't have to be organized in order to be considered a religion, as loose associations also count, and atheists aren't as anarchic as they claim. I hover between apatheism and isotheism, occasionally delving into ignosticism and bored with how some atheists try to act cool, like iPhone owners.
