This because of 'knife crime' apparently.
Wales had the lowest incidence of knife crime (along with the South West of England) in 2015, and in 2016 the Deputy Chief Constable said 'there is not a culture of knife crime in South Wales'.
This week the Chief Constable said stabbings were rare.
This is the same guy who wants to arm all his officers because of 'knife crime' to make people think twice before attacking his officers. He's a complicated chap.

He might want to read up about the Australian experience. Tasers were issued on the justification that they would be used in preference to firearms when warranted. Within a couple of years, there were something like five hundred discharges of tasers. Are we to assume that there were actually 500 instances where, absent the taser, the police would have shot someone?

The cops like them so much here they like to use them in combination with capsicum spray. Apparently if you have a couple of other cops kneeling on the target’s chest or have them cuffed already and blinded them with pepper spray it’s much easier to hit them. Didn’t work out so well for the poor Brazilian kid, who suffered a psychotic episode in Sydney and nicked a packet of Tim Tams. He won’t do that again.

The NSW cops already have both Tasers and side arms, as do all Oz Police forces. Frankly I'm amazed that there aren't more fatalities, given the gung ho nature of some of the boys in blue.

Indeed it was my local and favourite drinking hole for some years. A magical world, there was a public bar, a gay bar at the front, which baffled the tourists and largely kept 'em out and then there was a back bar with pool tables where the cool kids hung out. In the '70s and '80s there was a famous drag show upstairs, later it became one of the centres of the live music scene. Happy days! The pub is still there but not much of its identity remains.

First RAAC troops deployed to Vietnam was a troop of the Prince of Wales Light Horse. Locally they were known as Pull With Left Hand.
