I have heard old farts full of themselves opining that those who do the GWH are ripe for the picking to convert to historical gaming. These kids just can’t wait to paint up Westphalians (because that’s what the group will allow them to play). British are taken. French are taken. So that leaves Westphalians. That’s delusional.

They ARE different hobbies.
There is the GW Hobby and there is wargaming.
Kind of.
Go talk to some actual kids. Plenty of them are playing Bolt Action or toying with Black Powder. They spend a thousand hours playing Europa Universalis.
They'll play historicals if you make it so they can actually get started.
But as you say, that won't happen with the old farts in charge.
Of course, any game that is actually trying to get more kids into historicals is automatically derided as "dumbed down" so hey.
