GW invented the “Games Workshop Hobby”.
There are vague similarities to what I do.

I have heard old farts full of themselves opining that those who do the GWH are ripe for the picking to convert to historical gaming. These kids just can’t wait to paint up Westphalians (because that’s what the group will allow them to play). British are taken. French are taken. So that leaves Westphalians. That’s delusional.
You might as well try to convert tropical fish collectors.
They ARE different hobbies.
There is the GW Hobby and there is wargaming.

Go talk to some actual kids. Plenty of them are playing Bolt Action or toying with Black Powder. They spend a thousand hours playing Europa Universalis.
They'll play historicals if you make it so they can actually get started.

But as you say, that won't happen with the old farts in charge.



Of course, any game that is actually trying to get more kids into historicals is automatically derided as "dumbed down" so hey.

An article about camouflage that does not actually provide a photo of the new version. The quality of journalism today is just terrible.

I just found this to be so typical of TNP’s readership these days. Mikey’s bitching because the article doesn’t give him a photo of the new camouflage: it only gives him a link to the photo. Oh, the woes of an aging American wargamer, unable to grasp this new-fangled internet stuff. “You mean I have to click on something to SEE the photo...? What the hell is the world coming to?!”
