It's not the 'public' face that has to be cleaned up, it's the personal information. Not sure about accounts that use your 'real' name as opposed to an alias, but again by posting under that name you've made a concious decision to place your name on a public forum.

I would point out, of course, that that is a personal interpretation rather than an actual legal interpretation!

And let's face it, in his time, Bill has "outed" a few people without their permission and that data is still to be found on his site

Hi Bill.

From your editing it appears that you may have done some research, at least in this thread. Well done. Also, realising that this can cause more harm than good, at least in your case, is a useful first step.

Whilst I know that keeping records is not one of your strong suits, keeping a record of your compliance can only begin when you actually are compliant, so best to start there, eh?

One thing that I learned was how consent can be withdrawn afterwards. People coming to our events can always ask later for photos of them to be removed, if for example their personal circumstances change or they don't wish to be associated with us for any reason. It's bit happened yet, but I'm sure it will come up.

It would also apply to former advertisers who have posted with a named or identifiable and feel that being associated with TMP could harm their business' reputation.

On another note, I do find it ironic that legislation designed to protect individual privacy and reduce abuse of personal data is seen as an example of an intrusive government on TMP, despite the recent Cambridge Analytica furore.

It is a bit of a pain in the arse going through stuff but it's really just about showing a bit of consideration to people who are giving you information about themselves, once it's up and running. Note the last part, Bill.

He certainly did so to me, claiming I’d posted porn on his site - I hadn’t.

Wow. Clearly no trips to The Dairy Queen for Bill today. There has been furious editing of old posts. Of course the change is only superficial, the info is still there.
Just hope no one delves too deeply, huh Bill?
