Nowt wrong with a split infinitive, it's been in use in English ever since the 14th century, only 19th century pedants decided it was wrong. However they inacurately based that condemnation on a comparison with Latin. But English is not Latin and what's good enough for John Donne and Daniel Defoe is good enough for me. 19th Century pedants? Damn their eyes sir!

Very true.
But in an infinitive where the verb is transitive it is more elegant to put the adverb after the verb - 'learn to spell properly'.
