Always a bummer when the good ones go

I still think his proposal to his wife was one of the best things I've heard

I've still got a handful of his books to read. So I'm just glad he wrote so much; even if some of it was rushed and some is a bit samey.

He once threatened to thump me at an SF convention for calling him a "namby-pamby liberal" but then bought me a pint instead. Top bloke.

Iain Banks (with or without the M) RIP

I felt an excess of gravitas when I heard this yesterday, cancer done eat him quicker than I hoped it would after hearing he was ill earlier this year.

I've been reading his books since I was 17 and for years have received signed 1st editions from my mum at Christmas, although I still have 3 books of his I havent gotten round to reading (reading has become a holiday pasttime rather than a core activity it was when I was younger)..

I'm gutted that I wont see further development of the culture series which has been and remains perhaps my favourite SciFi setting...

Bless you Iain, its been a hell of a ride.

Yeah. Just read Stonemouth, great read and it really brings home how much I'm going to miss his writing. :(
