Thanks for the kind words, chaps.
To answer a few points...

Crenallations. Not in this period. Even in the high medieval period not all fortified buildings would have crenallations. The owner had to apply to the crown for a license to crenallate. Whilst the larger castles would have crenallations many local manor houses wouldn't.

The rough texture. It's sand. Cover the area you want to cover in PVA and then sprinkle on sand.

The logs. No, not dowels. They're twigs.

The stone steps. No card involved. The basic shape was made from a block of balsa and then skinned with miliput and the flagstones carved in with a cocktail stick.

The walk/hike sounds fantastic.

For the brick work, did you just carve that and then strip off the cardboard?

What a fantastic piece of art.

Bloody hell, Humph. That's lovely. :froth:

The straw in the watch fire is a cracking touch.

EDIT: Just noticed the dowels used for logs. For some reason I've never thought of using them and I've got bloody hundreds from Ikea around here somewhere. Also, you can get them for free in Ikea if you just go straight to the spare bits centre. In fact you can take lots of interesting little bits and pieces from there and they don't seem to care. :dodgy:
