 |

Hi,
I plan to build a fence placed on an embankment, behind which my dark son Sandro will deploy many Orcs based on Grenadier miniatures.
The easiest way to do it seems to be the model suggested in the GW book "The Lord of the Rings" serie: "A Shadow in the east". The fence is made of balsa wood to imitation of wooden planks.
To get the axes, such as the GW model suggests, we must assume that the Orcs may have to cut the trees that were before cut down, so they need the same equipments of a sawmill.
The question therefore is this:
Do Orcs may have a sawmill?
For the types of armor used, it seems that the Grenadier Orcs may have good knowledge in the art of forging metals. Can we assume that they are also able to build the typical tools of a sawmill to get planks?
Bye,
Sergio

Not in my personal imaginary view of orcs...

I realize you are probably not interested in my personal view of orcs so skip this box if you don't care.
In my imagination Orcs don't make anything, they don't forge armor and weapons, they don't build houses, they don't grow crops, orcs are a blight on the world, all they do is kill and inhabit the homes of the dead using up all their resources until depleting the land without ever nourishing it and than moving on. |
But I don't think Tolkien would have much of a problem with it. Orcs were builders, they just didn't make pretty things, so don't make it too nice looking, they made useful and clever things, and since a fence obviously has uses I don't see why Orcs wouldn't make one. _________________ The shops of my favorite sculptors|Heresy|Hasslefree|Olleys Armies|Red Box Games |

No reason why they couldn't, but you do not need a saw mill to make panks. They just speed up the operation and use less workers. _________________

Many Grenadier's miniatures represent Orc with armor and weapons very well done, then we must assume that they should have experienced blacksmiths. _________________ Bogia nen |

So you think the Orcs can build a fence with panks that they are made from cut down trees.
What do you means with: "they just speed the operation"? _________________ Bogia nen |

You can make planks with a saw, sawmills just do it faster. _________________

Seems very Orcy to me. Anything that helps despoil nature faster is welcome. _________________ "Have you got anything that's a bit less piratey!"

Orcs that take time and effort to get planks? For making a fence?
It seems to me that the Orcs are more inclined to use the trees as they are, at most sharpening the tip, as the Vikings done in the movie "The thirteenth warrior". _________________ Bogia nen |

So why ask if they have sawmills? _________________
