Do you mean the design of the pouch or the way it's worn? The small pouch attached the main ammo pouches is for cleaning tools. The back pack on the 2nd gunner is anyones guess though. Could be a piece of captured/civilian kit or something the field shop knocked up. _________________ I might like pears but if I buy a tin of peas I am going to be a bit miffed if I find a pear in amongst them. - Klingsor

Yeah I seem to recall reading that it was an impromptu method for AA use. A tripod was carried in the supply wagon but it was too time consuming to set up on the spur of the moment. _________________ I might like pears but if I buy a tin of peas I am going to be a bit miffed if I find a pear in amongst them. - Klingsor

This pose (and the 'backward' variant) is still tought in the German army as part of basic field exercise training.
And yeah, earplugs are a good idea for the MG 2. |

When I was an M-60 Gunner in the US Army they still taught us this AA pose. All of us joked about how useless this would be in real-combat. Don't know if they still teach it 15 years later, I suspect not since the M-60 is out of service (replaced by M240B). |

Aren't you supposed to hand the guns back when you leave?
